Ever since humans recognized that the Earth is a big sphere, various projection methods have been proposed to draw spherical surface on a flat surface.
There are various projection methods such as the Mercator, Azimuthal Equidistant Projection, Sinusoidal Projection up to the recent AuthaGraph, but Interrupted Normal Polyconic Projection retains its postion as the appropriate method for applicaton to the globe.
Interrupted Normal Polyconic Projection can be created by connecting multiple parts of Normal Polyconinc Projection.
Printing to a flat surface will continue to be a necessary step on creating the globe, unless direct 3D printing to a sphere surface becomes a popular method.
Our service will provide a conversion engine to create maps by Interrupted Normal Polyconic Projection.
To use our service, source images must be provided by Equidistant Cylindrical Projection (Equirectangular Projection). Maps by other projection methods must be converted to Equidistant Cylindrical Projection (Equirectangular Projection) before applying our service.
We use Equidistant Cylindrical Projection (Equirectangular Projection) as an input because in Mercator's Projection which is the most popular method, parts of North Pole and South Pole are not shown. Therefore, even though it is a similar method, we have chosen Equidistant Cylindrical Projection (Equirectangular Projection) to cover the whole sphere.
We will work on increasing available input methods in the near future.
Our service provides conversion of Raster Data, and thus appropriate for handling data such as satellite photos.
Of course, users can use other types of images as well, just by creating a Raster data using Image Editing Softwares and so on.
Other application examples are using panorama images taken by omnidirectional camera and pasting it on the sphere.
